About the Author

Angela Parker is an independently published

writer from south Texas, whom in 2014 shook the e-dust from more than a decade’s worth of poems, short stories, and novels in order to finish them and send them out into the world.

Much of her work is steeped in darkness and teeters on the edge of inappropriate, occasionally slipping beyond the point of no return.

She enjoys writing in many styles and genres. (Largely depending on shifting mood and weather patterns.)

She developed her love for writing under the tutelage of a few very important women in her life, including her mother who enjoyed writing poetry, but never shared it with the world.

She is a devoted procrastinator who enjoys spending time with her family. She also loves smelling the dirt after a rain and watching the sun come up after being up all night. She has incredibly vivid and interesting dreams that provide much of the inspiration for her poems and stories.

She sometimes writes about herself in the third person if the standard practice demands it, but she remains adamant that it feels bizarre, and she has yet to establish any level of comfort while doing so.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your creative process like?

Very messy. I usually have several projects going on at once and I write all over the map so to speak.

How do you combat writer's block?

My messy process does not allow for writer's block. If I have trouble on something, I take that to mean that I am not in the right frame of mind to work on that particular project that particular day. Instead of seeking to change my frame of mind, I pull out a project that suits whatever frame of mind I am in, thus keeping me working without stifling my creativity.

What do you write?

Um,  fiction is a definite answer. Some paranormal, some supernatural, and some Erotica. I can answer better what I don't write, as I am no good at all on Fantasy, Sci-Fi, or Mystery.

If you work on several things at once how do you meet your deadlines?

As an independently published author, I set my own deadlines. That being said, I do occasionally push back my own deadlines if something goes awry, but it doesn’t happen often because if I set a deadline on a project that usually means that it is very near finished.

Why did you choose to publish independently?

I have trouble relinquishing control of my work, so I was frightened away from traditional publishing almost immediately.

How many times have you been turned down by a publisher?

Had I ever tried, I imagine that it would have been quite a lot. It seems like almost everyone is turned down a lot. My vision for my work never reached in that direction, so I never tried it.

Where do you live?

I live in south Texas, where the mesquite trees thrive and the yard is made of sand. I love it though, except for the dust in the house, that I could do without.

What do you do for fun?

When I leave the house, which isn’t often, I love to take walks in the rain, and explore old towns. I also quite enjoy visiting zoos, gardens, and aquariums.

Have you always known that you wanted to be a writer?

I have always known that I enjoy writing, but for most of my life I have been a closet writer. I never thought that I would have a chance to do it full time. When I started, independent publishing wasn’t an option, and since I didn’t want to turn over control I was left with writing for hobby.
