Redd could feel Fiona clutching his back, nerves shaking her body against his. He pulled up to his full height and looked down at the creature, his eyes never leaving hers. They were...oddly human, though they shone as bright gold as the eighty-one guineas discovered in Carrick-on-Suir. Nothing on humans should be that color, thought Redd. It has to be black magick.
“Alas, we meet, Redd,” she purred, running a talon along the hood strings of his red jacket. She pierced one into the fabric, letting Redd taste the sharp pain of her nail, reminding him that was only the tip.
“Yer granny screamed yer name as I tore into her flesh.”
Redd lunged at the creature, though she was gone before he caught her. She stood behind him, waggling her finger at him. “Tsk, tsk...ye made a promise.” Her grin was positively feral. She eyed Redd as if she wanted to eat him alive.
“Ye killed my grandmother!” Redd screamed. “She was an old woman, ye bitch! She couldn’a defend herself against ye. What’s yer game? She wasn’a in the woods; she never went near ye woods.”
“Ah, but ye do. Don’t ye, Big Redd?”
The smile disappeared from her face as her brows furrowed at the center in a scowl. Redd heard guttural snarls coming from behind her in the woods as a small army of male wolves, standing erect in their hybrid men’s bodies, marched forward from the dense trees.
Before Redd could answer, before he could even see the flick of her wrist, he felt the sharp ends of her bullwhip slam into his side, and his world went black.
